There are 90-100 people in vocational training on Ærø (2024 figures). This includes both young people and adults. The largest number of apprenticeships are at Søby Shipyard and Ærø Municipality, but there are many companies with a single apprenticeship.
There is a guaranteed apprenticeship in 9 trades in Ærø municipality if you take your education in Svendborg, and there are attractive agreements with SOSU Fyn for students from Ærø.
Ærø is home to one of Denmark’s oldest maritime education programs. Here you can study to become a Ferry Navigator, take the basic navigation training, Coastal Skipper (also online) and continue your studies to become a Set Skipper and Navigator.
Every year, between 40-70 students start at HF Maritime and the two-year HF program on Ærø. There are local students, but the majority of the school’s students come from all over the country and live in school homes during their first years on Ærø. The three-year HF is offered in collaboration between Navigationsskolen and VUC Fyn Ærø.
